Creation (2013) for orchestra and laptop orchestra
The Concordia Laptop Orchestra (17 laptopists) and Orchestre symphonique de l'Isle (65 instrumentalists) premiered the piece Creation for orchestra and laptop orchestra (Tsabary, 2013) in a concert also featuring Stravinsky's Petrushka, Barber's Adagio for Strings and Castelnuovo-Tedesco's Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra, Op. 99.
Orchestre symphonique de l'Isle (OSI) was conducted by Cristian Gort (and Concordia Laptop Orchestra (CLOrk) was conducted by Eldad Tsabary.
The concert marked one of the few times that symphony and laptop orchestras have performed together.
This piece was commissioned by Orchestre symphonique de l'Isle for its 2012-2013 season for a concert that included performances of Barber's Adagio for strings, Castelnuovo-Tedesco's concert for guitar (op. 99), and Stravinsky's Petrushka.
The concert took place Saturday, March 23, 2013, 8 PM @ Oscar Peterson Concert Hall in Montreal.
Concordia Laptop Orchestra:
Founded 2010 by Eldad Tsabary, the Concordia Laptop Orchestra (CLOrk) specializes in networked and multidisciplinary performances. It has performed locally and telematically with various jazz, chamber, and laptop ensembles worldwide and collaborated with dancers and video artists. CLOrk's sound is characterized by wide textural and dynamic ranges and rich, glitchy rhythms. The orchestra consists of 15-25 performers and is guided by soundpainting conduction.
